Posted by Radojevic on January 08, 2000 at 18:18:32: I found this cool software that allows you to run OpenGL apps (okay, let's call it like it is... games) on a system that has Direct3D support (requires DirectX v6.x, but I used v7.0a), but does not have OpenGL support. I first found a reference to it on the OpenGL Org's website, http://www.opengl.org/Products/Chips.html The software is made by SciTech and the v1.00 build 1 trial can be downloaded at http://www.scitechsoft.com/down_gldirect.html#Download I was sceptical, especially since I read most of the posts you guys left on this discussion board, but I downloaded the trial version, and it even works on my IBM ThinkPad 770 (200MHz Pentium II MMX)with it's Trident Cyber9397 graphics chip (2.0MB VRAM). Not what you'd call a great gaming system. Of course, it's extremely slow on my system, but it does work. I tried it with Quake II (oh, my, god, I didn't realize it could look so good!), and Quake III, which requires OpenGL. Quake III is not usable on my system, but at least it starts up. With a fast enough system (500MHz Pentium III w/8MB VRAM), I'm optimistic this might work out for us. I'm not getting a laptop upgrade until February, so can someone please test this out and report back? I'd love to make you all happy! I am a Support Manager after all. george
