Try this: with your computer turned off, plug in the composite or S-video cable to the TV and video card, unplug the VGA monitor cable, then turn on the computer; the video card should automatically direct its output to the TV set instead of the VGA monitor. I have a VirgeGX2 and it worked for me.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any drivers to switch the output to the TV on the fly.
