"Thank you SO MUCH for posting this fix. I've been trying to get my wife's machine fixed for, oh, about 3 months with no luck. I used your driver and had it fixed in 10 minutes. For those of you using an 8660, you will need to configure the "multimedia audio controller" using the supplied driver. Do this through the device manager. Again -- THANK YOU. -charles"

"Hello, Will this driver work for a notebook modem? I downloaded the hsf_w2k .exe from conexant's site and got a wieerrrrd error everytime I try to install the driver. Anyways, please comment if you also have a notebook and this *friendly* conexant soft56 modem."

"Ralph, You are the man! Way to go. I was struggling for long time to find the right driver and your posting did it! I have HP 8766 Model and it worked great for me. As Layne also mentioned somewhere, Just remember not install the modem from Modem option in control panel, do it from device manager-->PCI simp communication--> get it. It's on COM3! Modem won't give you the

"FTDS [follow the directions stupid] applies to me. you MUST use the ripwww file and download that too. then is a complete fix. at least on my hp8775c. why does HP and MS ignore this driver for win 2000? this is a fix. IF you run both programs after download. fix for modem AND fix for sound card. good luck. it works."

"have an HP 8775c. put windows 2000 on it. conexant failed. used this driver. and sound card works, and then on reboot, goes down. up and down. not a full fix."

"I installed the driver under Windows 2000 Pro and it installed OK. It assigned a port to the modem, but Windows doesn't recognize the port in Device Manager. And I believe since windows doesn't see the port, the modem will not dial. Have anyone experience this? If so, what is the fix?"

"It worked for me but it did take quite a while to figure out the various steps others have tried. The modem must be setup first and then the sound card for Win2000/Pro. Blue screens of death are possible still."

"Yes, it works!! Both my speakers and modem come back alive under Win2000. Just remember not install the modem from Modem option in control panel, do it from device manager-->PCI simp communication--> get it. It's on COM3! Modem won't give you the option."

"I have the Smart Modular Technologies Mod. No. 90079 FCC ID 2D7USA-33303-M5-E Modem and daughter sound card. The sound card works great but I have not been able to get the modem to dial up. I even tried a second card of the same make (Mod. No. 90079) and no luck there either! The search for a proper driver will continue."

"I couldnot install this driver on my HP8668C Pavilion running Win XP SP2. XP refused to load the driver, said it would case instability. I'm limping along at 28.8 kbs on my modem. The default XP drivers seem to work ok for the audio/sound card portion so far."
