Download the USR5699B_2K_XP.exe file to a temporary location on your computer's hard drive.
Double-click the file in Windows Explorer. The file will self extract to C:\USR\5699B. Windows XP will install your modem with a default driver. This default driver will need to be updated from the Device Manager to reflect the current driver for your modem.
Select Start, right-click My Computer, select Properties, select Hardware, and select Device Manager.
From the Device Manager window, double-click Modems, right-click U.S. Robotics 56K Fax Win, and select Update Driver. This will prompt the Hardware Update Wizard to begin.
Select Install from a list or specific location(Advanced). Click Next.

Locate the device and model that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
Select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button and follow the instructions.
In most cases, you will need to reboot your computer in order for the driver update to take effect.
