"This driver did not fix my problem. The problem was with the OS and not the driver. -I tried several drivers but still could not write to the cd.

I will find the site and post the link later, but I found a VB script posted on a tech forum that worked! It's called xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs and I think it was through the Philips or the Compaq site."

"The original Flash Tool did not work, generated an error. Downloaded another Flash tool to download the CVT file which worked OK."

"My Compaq Presario won't even acknowledge I have a CD ROM. It is Phillips CDD4401/72. I upgraded to 2000 from 98. Ever since then, neither my CDROM or DVD are recognized at all on my machine. I finally was able to get DVD ok,now I need help with CDROM."

"if any one wants frimware update for their philips CDD4401/71 for windows XP just go to compaq and download SP20617. it will include the frimware update so the 4401 will work with windows XP. it says it for a different model but after you download it and run it you will see it has the update for the 4401. Iam just useing the windows drives and this firmware update and I ca

"Downloaded, very easy. SW worked fine and identified my drive before I proceeded to flash. Works directly from win 98 without having to create a separate floppy and boot from it like previous times. CD RW seems to work fine. My drive was the 4x4x24 4201 vs the 4x4x32 4401"
