"Re-built a system for a chap and put Win XP Pro on it which insisted that it had found a "Best Data" modem (which does not have voice capability). XP kept on wanting to put the "Best Data" driver in but I dug it out and kept it at bay long enough to get the Conexant HCF driver installed although XP really tried to stuff things up. "The driver was able to solve the problem of the modem's inability to dial, but even after the connection was established the buzz kept going on. Then after some time my pc hangs-up with a high pitched buzz from the pc speaker. What can we do about this?"

"Tried this and other drivers, the only result being "opening port", then nothing. Tried everything but no dialing sound and no contact. The modem works ok with W98 (dual-boot system with c and d partitions). Help!"

"This is the right driver. It works With XP & Win 2000 Prof. Some work to trick OS about the driver date "the Driver used is newer the the one you want to install" (or something like that). Better to Install than to update driver. I worked it out by Deleting the original windows inf file from the drivers folder (of course Just Rename it to *.BAK or backup it to other folder

"It works! After downloading 7 drivers this is the one. I had to let XP install the modem and then choose the modem myself. The default comport was 3, but after changing it, everything was running properly. Many thanks!"

"When installing this driver I was not given a choice of COM3 in the Install New Modem dialog. However my modem was installed on COM3. The way I got round this was to allow Windows XP install the standard driver and then actually update to this driver from within Properties of the standard modem on the driver tab. But on the good side the driver works!"
