"Like the 4830 this would appear to be a third party driver (manufacturer never intended to support XP).

The driver does appear to work BUT NOT with the scanning software it originally came with.

It definately works with Unlead Photo Express (tested and OK) and probably Adobe Photoshop.

I even got it to RUN ON VISTA using Vuescan Pro 8.1"

"this is the second time i've downloaded this. the zip file seems to work well. the first time i tried it the utility was written by somebody named Fred. it didn't download that well and when i finally got it to work it sometimes froze up my computer. this one seems different and so far so good."

"it works, but it took me 2 or 3 downloads, 2or 3 reboots, and opening install files to finally get it to turn my scanner light on. then i installed Adobe Photo Shop (it's free, but takes 17 minutes on a dialup)to be able to actually scan something. 3,4 ,5 sessions on the computer made it happen for me the rookie."

"I also thought it didn't work at first, but you've gotta run the scantest utility where it has installed after rebooting your system. It should be in c:/scanner, then click verify port and *behold* your scanner lights up.

"Works very well, no problems with install. Just remember to restart after installation & then run the scantest.exe file & click "verify port" as per the uploaders instructions. Using Windows XP SP2 & Microsoft Picture It to view & print scanned images. This has saved a perfectly good scanner from the rubbish heap!"

"I download this the other day, put in the system yesterday 4/2/05 first time it didn't work (my system is a bit strange at times) but I rebooted the system and reloaded it again and it works just fine for the scanner and being on XP for an OS.

Thank you, this saves me of having to throw the scanner away and getting a newer one as there isn't a thing wrong with this sca

"This driver was installed by my grandaughter without especial knowledgement abouts PC's installation, 13 years old.-

I sent the driver her by msn-messenger and I supported her by phone. Her PC is a PII 300 Mhz with WinXP. No problems to install and no problems to use.-"

"I agree with the comments of Arbesto Pelta.

Sometimes color bands are visible, and the gamma and color stability is not stable. Scanning for the second time helps in most cases.

In general it was usefull, for now it is better than buying a new scanner.

"THIS DRIVER WORKS, BUT it's not magical, you have to adjust the gamma balance, at 1.50 or so.

It's very easy, after installing the driver and rebooting choose "aquire" from your graphics software (like corel, photoshop or so) this will open the interfase, wich is old and not friendly. Once you are there:

"I believe this is the windows NT driver. The prescan image shows up strangely with the RGB components slightly offset from each other. The actual scan works everytime. Thanks."

"Driver does work, but you can receive odd artifacts while pre-scanning. I also noticed a loud "clunk" as the cathode is retracting. Might be the scanner itself or driver problems although I had not noticed any noise while using the scanner under Win98SE.

If you receive any odd artifacts (colors and position shifting of the item scanned) just re-prescan. I al

"Followed all 'Eric's' instructions and cannot get a decent scan. The colours and image are all distorted. I've emailed Eric for advice and await his reply.

"this driver claims to work on windows XP, however after installing it and following the instruction i found i had to start my computer in safe mode just to get past the windows is starting screen.

If this happened to anyone else and you have found drivers that worked or found a way to install them so they work, please contact me."

"For those of you that get the message 'Scanner DLL not found' after downloading and istalling this driver, insert the Plustek CD (do not let it auto boot)Explore cd and open the WIN95 folder, then open ENGLISH folder and copy SETUP.DLL into the driver folder that you have downloaded as this is the DLL file that is missing"

"I could not get this driver to work, however I did get the driver called plustek4831p_w2K_m300e-95, which is in the driver database, to work...This is how WITH SCANNER UNPLUGGED and UCONNECTED follow instructions. "No drivers work for my XP home after spending 5 hours trying different install scenarios in safe mode, with the parallel port set to EPP, SPP, ECP, by installing the legacy drivers first, with the scanner turned off, by not rebooting, by tweaking the parallel port driver... nothing works. So don't waste your time if you get "Scanner DLL not found", there is no DLL missing

"No joy with this my friend! After several attempts at re-installing the original drivers followed by the new one, I can only switch the light on and off. Couldn't find the 'scantext.exe' in the unzipped folder...? When I try and scan, my scanner runs to the bottom of the screen (and tries top continue), where it is now parked. Any clues?"

"I've got a 4830. Tried it at work on an XP Pro machine and it works fine. My XP Home machine gives me the dreaded "can't find scanner dll" message. I've tried the suggestion of installing the drivers from their site and then these on top. Scanner lights up on bootup, but still get error when I open the Scantest."

"For the ppl who get the "DLL Not Found" message. Instal the old drivers from PlusTek's website and then install these drivers over the top STRAIGHT AFTER (DON'T RESTART), then restart the computer and it should work properly."

"This driver worked fine for me with XP Pro. I had upgraded from W98 and had the original disk. Ran the driver installation from the zip file and clicked OK when prompted for disk2. Restarted and ran the "Scantest.exe" in the folder I installed to. Clicked OK to default settings. I then installed "ImageIn" from the CD that came with the scanner and it worked fine, though I

"Worked like a charm! Asks for disk 2 - jst click through. Installed in same folder as old software was installed. Maybe this helps. Plustek should get of their rs and post appropriate drivers ontheir site. Its not good enough to say its an old product and doesn't work on XP"

"It worked! Thanks, Eric! It did ask for the disk but I just clicked "OK" and it continued to install. I scanned a text and it worked, just like before! Great!"

"Got it to install even when it asked for disk 2? anyways still the install completed...then rebooted as what the screen instructed me to, tried scanning something in photo editor, for some reason came out all in bits and pieces, some on the left and right. Perhaps my scanner is finished? Never had that problem before..any ideas? Thanks"

"I installed this driver and it works fine, just follow the instructions. I'm running XP pro, and using a 4831 scanner. The Adobe Active Share works great for photos, and for text I'm using TextBridge Classic, with no problems.- - - Rod - - -"

"It does not work on it's own like it did in 98...you need to run it thru another viewer program PowerPoint works as well...however I'm only getting one scan then I have to close down P/P and resart it after each scan. Haven't tried Word yet... but, it does work"
