"It seems that I needed both drivers to have the sound card be detected and give audio. I first tried just the recommended driver - WDM_A381.exe which did not work. I had to download and install CMI8738_WDM_0639XP.zip (contains 16 files). The single GUI asks if the CMI8738 is embedded or on a sound card and if there is only one jack for both front and rear or 2 jacks. Once

I proceeded through and restarted, I installed the WDM_A381.exe. When looking in Add/Remove programs and the first file showed installed but 0 bytes I uninstalled it. I then no longer had sound and had to update driver and point that unzipped folder from the install."
