"It was downloaded to my desktop, without a request to do so! I had to delete each and every folder! It made NO difference to the woeking of said product! A TOTAL waste of my time!!"

"I needed the new driverfor upgrading from Windows 98 to XP.

First uninstall your existing programme.

Then install this vs355su and it still will not work.

But then install the EXTRA PATCH for XP, and after installing that, my Astra 2100U worked again as before"

"I tried this driver and folowed all directions.

No matter what I did, my WindowsXP Pro did not recognize it and I was unable to get it to work.

"This 3.55 driver for Umax Astra 2200 USB scanner is NOT AT ALL compatible with Windows XP. Don't waste your time (and money if you are connected with modem) downloading it!"

"This was the second version of the 3.55 driver I tried. It simply did not work on my XP computer, Service Pack 1a. It loaded but could not find the scanner."

"After upgrading to Windows XP, I could not get my UMAX scanner to work. USB port would not recognize it. Finally, I was able to get it to work with the correct drivers installed. Thanks for your help with the drivers."

"I downloaded this driver with my apple. It downloaded as a file download.php? In desperation I changed its name to the name that it was meant to be vs355su.exe and installed it on my XP OS it didn't work my computer can't find the scanner."

"This is a win98se driver which is then patched to work on XP. So if anyone is looking for the latest 98SE driver for a 2200 this is it! U-max SUCKS for charging for this driver update! I'll NEVER buy another one of their products!!!!"

"It was the HP Photosmart S20 that conflicted. I can use either one but not both. A bit of a pain but I don't use the UMAX all that much so I'll endure with pulling the USB cable on the S20 and plugging in the USB cable on the UMAX when I need to use it. Seems to recognize the UMAX as long as HP S20 is not connected to the USB. Tried many different approaches and connection

"I had the same problem as others with not installing. REMOVE ALL USB devices first and get Windows XP to recognize the scanner. Then install vs355u file (best from www.umax.de as it automates) then don't restart! Install the 2xxxupdater. When it is complete, restart the computer. After a half a day of fiddling, finally figured it was a USB conflict, probably with my HP Pho

"When I installed on new Windows XP system, it crashed. So, I did Custom Install and only selected the TWAIN driver. Then it completed successfully. After installing the patch & restarting, I'm ready to go. THANKS!"

"Spot on folks! But you'll need 2xxxupdater.exe as well. First run vs355su.exe which unpacks six folders Disk1 to Disk6. Run vssetup in Disk1 but don't restart XP just yet. Run 2xxxupdater then restart XP. It works a treat - I need a copier and this saved me £70 for new scanner!"

"If you want your scanner to scan Images then DO NOT PLUG in the cable that comes from the lid. This for some reason causes a conflict. I bought the scanner to scan slides?"

"i have tried.. well.. [almost] everything. i have uninstalled and reinstalled. then i found these patches. i installed vs355u.exe and restarted. then installed 2xxxupdater.exe and restarted again.. still "USB device not found". i also finally got the "ADD/REMOVE HARDWARE" utilility to recognize and add the "Umax2100U Scanner" in the Device Manager.. restarted and still the

"My friend was charged $14.00 for these drivers. It has been two weeks and he still has not received from UMAX. I guess Customer Service isn't a high priority on UMAX's list."

"win200 upgrade, put in OEM software (vrs 3.51U)and then this patch works great. Why would I Pay $14.00 for software you can almost buy a scander for that price!"

"i already have windows xp home on my computer and the disk that came with my astra 2100u says "os not supported, install aborted". Tried this driver, and installed the patch after, but it doesn't work for me, the comm test always fails. Anyone have any suggestions?"

"It worked a treat on my Astra 2000U. I think it's really cheap of UMAX to try to charge $15 for this. The patch worked a treat without a reboot or anything - download - run and zap there it was under scanners in conrol panel - beautiful. Thanks !"

"Haven't tried this yet on XP, but noticed Umax has a patch for VistaScan 3.55 (presumably this driver) on their web site. They want 15 buck for the 3.55 driver on CD, but the patch is free."
