"This a firmware flash/upgrade. I could not burn CD's, after I installed the upgrade I have had no trouble burning CD's.This applys to the WIN98SE OS, I have not checked the WIN XP PRO OS as my computer has dual boot options."

"I tried it on my Pentium 4 with windows 98SE

but it didnt do what I wanted it to do so I

can realy say wither I recomend it or not

"I understood that the Source File should be the extracted hex file, but the Target Drive dropdown didn't contain any choices, and if I try to specify a drive (e.g., D: or D or E:), I can't get past the No Target Drive message."

"The driver is HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B for my CD/DVD drive. I've done everything I know of to install the driver, but can't find a way. The files downloaded are and executable (Dell_E108) file and a .HEX file. When I run the executable file it opens a window with "Target Drive" and the HL-DT.... number listed; a Source File with *.* listed and a BROWSE button, a

"After having started the exe-file, I had a problem finding the file requested by *.*. I had no clue which file was requested here, I thought it must have been the old driver, how to find that one? However the file needed was included with the exefile as a .hex-file, after selecting that one with browse, all things worked out smoothly. Thank you very much"

"I have tested the driver and it works. The problem with the CDROM seems to be a common one from comments on the web sites, and the usually recommendation is that it is bad and just needs to be replace. But this new driver seems to work great.

Having not had an extended usage, I really cannot comment on its stability."

"i can't freaking believe it, whoever sent you here to get this update u had better thank them. this is THE fix if your hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4481b doesn't want to read cd's or anything for that matter, you extract the file, open the .exe, browse to the .hex file you extracted (must extract for it to work), and press update, it'll open and close ur cd rom for you, then everyt
