"PCTel modems are winmodems. The install program (setup.exe) doesn't work, so you have to rely on Windows being able to detect the modem. If the modem was previously installed and there's an irq conflict, you can't resolve it unless you know which irq the modem was previously using. You then have to change the other device's irq. The modem can't be reconfigured to another

"After filling out page after page of quesionairres and giving out my e-mail address, I was finally able to start downloading the driver I thought I needed. It turns out this system file does nothing to install an actual sound driver. WHAT A BIG WASTE OF MY TIME. I should have gone straight to Dell to download a "hassle-free" driver that WORKS!!!!"

"hI...iREAD YOUR INSTRUCTIONS AND COMMENTS....BUT I HAVE A PROBLEM AND MAYBE YOU CAN HELP. wHEN SEARCHING FOR AC95VIA IN MY MACHINE FOUND THE FILE IN WINDOWS/DRIVER CACHE/I386/DRIVER THIS IS A 74 MG FILE WHICH I CAN OPEN BUT NOT MODIFY, CANT PASTE YOUR FILE NOR CHANGE THE NAME OF SAME NAME FILE INSIDE. pLEASE ADVICE. iT SEEMS YOU´RE REALLY INTO THIS. BEST REGARDS"

"ok heres what i did. down load this file and copy it to your c /windows/system32/drivers folder. There will be another file with the same name ac97via.sys just rename it to oldac97via.sys and put this one in to replace it... then go to device manager... right click my computer or system under control panel. uninstall the ac97 sound controller under sound and gaming option

How to Update VIA AC 97 (WDM) Device Drivers Quickly & Easily

Step 1 - Download Your Driver

How to Install a driver from Device Manager

  1. Locate the device and model that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  2. Select the Driver tab.

  3. Click the Update Driver button and follow the instructions.

In most cases, you will need to reboot your computer in order for the driver update to take effect.
