"I upgraded a Dell Dimension T450 to win xp, and the Hitachi GD 5000 would not work. Used this file as per R.D's instructions above. 1. make a floppy. 2. Read the readme file. 3. open computer bios (check your online support site for how to do this) and find the device number (mine was also 2 secondary master). 4. reboot on the floppy in DOS mode and follow the instructions

"Unable to comment on the software. After I downloaded it and tried to use the device it became apparent that there was a hardware problem. At least the driver helped me find that out."

"I'm running XP Pro and the flash worked fine, only problem is I am still trying to find a way to play the later DVD R disks bigger than 3.95, to be fair this didn't claim to do that, so it did what it said on the tin."

"Good file. It's too bad that this drive was manufactured just before DVD-R media came out making this drive only capable of DVD+R. Still, great file."

"had to use the /c switch to flash...

i.e.

flashup a:\5015g002.dld 2 /c /a

**/c is 'Ignore Device ID Check' or something like that. Otherwise I got a 'No Hitachi DVD Device found'.

Win2k Pro, Compaq GD5000 (made by Hitachi).

Flash from v210 to v215 successful."

"cant get any drivers to install

found drive number after two attempts

confirmed flash of drive but windows will still not see drive as a dvd rom and cant get windows drivers to get out of there

i think it may be better to buy a new dvd drive"

"It is an installation upgrade for the Hitachi drive is you have Windows 95. I have Win XP Home Edition. The instructions are incomplete. I was not able to complete the installation probably because of the Win 95 application in an XP system."

"As i have found with alot of flash prog's and some will even warn. If you format the floppy using nt,2k or xp and sometimes me flash will fail. Iether format floppy disk using 98, or buy a preformatted ibm disk to run the flash from. Hope this helps some xp users."

"If you're on Win2k or WinXP you you might need administrator access to write the floppy disk image. It worked for me under winXP"

"The Batch program just formats a disk in drive "A" and then does nothing. I tried this on a Win ME operating system...the search continues!"

"Yes it worked. I installed a Sony cd-ReWrite (CRX140E/CH) as a secondary slave device. Their software removed the Hitachi drivers and my DVD gave the blue screen when it tried to read a CD-ROM disk. Dell technical people were unwilling to help. DVD ROM works OK now."

"Finally got it to load, still didn't fix DVD. (won't recognize a Video Disc but o.k. on audio and SW installs.) Tried it on a Win98 pc. The readme was not real clear. Sz boot with the floppy, can't, Sz not a bootable disk, hit F1 to continue...Copied the files on C:, then rformated a floppy with SYS on it, the copied the .EXE, DLD, TXT to it and booted the system and it
