"This driver ought come with a warning, if SCSI Card is not detected and correctly configured in the hardware, the installation abruptly aborts or still despite specifying what SCSI card your using.

e manually by double-clicking on "SCSIAD32" program from file directory where "HP Deskscan" is originally installed to change Scanner (make & model), Test Scanner and SCSI Card configuration.

To confuse matters, if the SCSI Card is working then XP will detect 'New Hardware' and install Scanner driver (differs from card), both are needed for it to work. Using "SCSIAD32" incorrectly reports 'No SCSI Hosts Found', instead configure with 'Device Manager' to change SCSI Card settings."

"I tried to hook in to a paralell port but I think I was supposed to install an SCSI card. Needless to say it didn't even come close to working. But I don't think it was the driver's fault."

"I need the scanner driver to work with an adaptec scsi card. This driver is designed for the HP proprietary card (Symbios HP). That is the problem. so for all of you with the original card, it might work."

"Ok this baby had me really stuck once I figured it out.

Windows 98SE is really tricky to install.

Download the driver and extract it to your desktop not the temp directory. Its way too confusing. You will find disk1,disk2 disk3 and fdisk.

Then delete/uninstall the yellow exlimation mark in hardware.

Next goto add hardware wizard.

manually install the hardwar

e by selecting other device then going down the manufactures list then picking have disk. Goto the disk1 on your desktop.

It will ask you to reboot, now when it does, it will ask you for the win98se disk. Make sure you find the driver in d:\win98. once you've found it you can install it.

Then after all the fuss just go to disk1 and hit setup.exe.

When I tried to run setup.exe it just didn't work its really fussy about the order of things. anyway.

"THE DRIVER INSTALLED, BUT WHEN INSTALLING ON WINDOWS 98SE, AFTER INSTALATION, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO GO TO THE WINDOWS DISK, DRIVERS AND ALSO CHOOSE HP DRIVERS OFF OF THE 98SE DISK, OTHER THAN THAT, THE SOFWARE WORKS GOOD."

"I tried the driver, on my computer, with both WIN 98, and 2000. It works great, unfortunatly, my SCSI card doesn't work, so my scanner doesn't work, because it doesn't detect it. But I do recoment this driver, to anyone that doesn't have the original HP dirvers."

"Setup hanged up - Error(31), "*some application's running ( none), close, and reattempt". Attempted thru oemsetup.inf, but then win couldn't start (until SCSI-drv disabled in Reduced Mode)... But the first place for weeks, .NOT. referring which doesn't work from here... Thx! (trying more to come over)"

"Not exactly about the driver, but... The 53C416 scsi card uses a ISA slot, but modern mohterboards no longer use them. I bought an Adaptec AVA-2904 PCI-to-fast SCSI Card and works great under XP"

"My SCSI card went out, and I purchased another card that worked great under Windows 98. The card (Tekram DC 315/U ) is recognized by Windows XP, but the driver (sj166en,exe) for my HP 5P scanjet scanner still won't work properly. Any suggestions?"

"This is the HP Scanjet II Software which includes (I assume) TWAIN drivers for the Model 4C scanner. It doesn't identify Model 4C when installing, so may also work for a range of others. This works fine on Windows NT4 using an Adaptec 2940 SCSI interface card. Thanks. PS The HP Drivers site is hopeless since they merged with Compaq !!!"

"I used this driver to configure my scsi card on windows XP because the one provided for such operating system wouldn't work and it worked smoothly, so, I therefore suggest that you extend the operating system category of this file to WXP... it would be of help to others I assume.
