Realtek AC'97 Audio Driver Reviews

k action. Power off reboot - resulted in a normal reboot. The driver DID operate the first time. Audio on a Windows media player file was ok. Video appeared ok. When machine was rebooted a second time, a windows screen came up declaring: Windows has found new hardware and is installing the software for it.. The hardware identified was the Realtek AC97 audio interface. After this, windows continued to load normally, but upon accessing the windows media player file - there was no audio, plus the video was quite jerky - with occasional freeze frames. I reinstalled both of these files 5 or 6 times with everything else turned off. No soap.. still wouldn't work. I DID find a file on CNet Download.com called Vinyl_AudioCodec_V650a . This file seems to (knock on wood) work. At least it hasn't destroyed itself yet after 6 or so reboots - i still get audio and the video seems ok. I would guess that these two (works only one time) drivers fail to do something to keep windows away - and the 'one size fits all' Microshaft s/w is removing the working driver file to replace it with a non working one that is "Redmond approved". I recommend using the download.com file.. that seems to work. Cheers..
