"There are apparently 3 major versions of this driver. There is the original 1.X batch. There is this 2.0 version. And there is a version 4.04 that is included in the Windows 98SE install CD.

Version 4.04 has at least one major bug. I know from firsthand experience that if you have a PCI modem card, the 4.04 driver can conflict with the modem and the vital OS program MS

GSSVR32.EXE -- causing GPF faults during shutdown, and corrupting the boot sectors of your hard disk. The CMI8330 driver is mentioned in the GPF fault message.

If you have seen the above error on your machine, I strongly recommend that you DOWNGRADE your driver to this 2.0 version -- or CMedia themselves are still supplying this version (2.0) on their website."
