"Turned out that the BIOS wasn't the problem - there was a Supervisor Password (which I didn't have), so the RAM upgrade wouldn't register until I was logged in as a Supervisor (not just an ordinary User). So....I pinned out the BIOS jumper on mb, which removed the Supervisor password, and hey presto! the RAM upgrade worked fine!!"
