"As far as I know you do not need a driver to make your cdrw work. I've upgraded for windows2000 and have had problems making it work until I install "Nero burning rom" software. www.nero.com It is working fine now. It wasn't with Easy CD creator."

"if any one wants frimware update for their philips CDD4401/71 for windows XP just go to compaq and download SP20617. it will include the frimware update so the 4401 will work with windows XP. it says it for a different model but after you download it and run it you will see it has the update for the 4401. Iam just useing the windows drives and this firmware update and I ca

"I tried flashtool, but it keeps complaining about DMA setting and stops. I use ME and the cdrw404"

"I too am having this problem. I upgraded Win 98 SE to XP Pro and now it only sees it as a CD-ROM and Not a CD-RW. Can't get Compaq or Philips to give me a driver. Did anyone get this firmware upgrade to work?? HELP?!?!?"
