Control Panel > System Properties > Device Manager > Sound controller reads "ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive." I looked everywhere for a compatible DOS driver and couldn't find it. I'm not sure of my card's serial number (it came with my ThinkPad and I can't find any specific references to it), but in light of others' troubles in finding a DOS driver for the 1938(S) cards, I assume mine may be the same. I found this hiding in my root directory and it works magnificently. Try it out for yourself, I'm not making any promises. But you 1938 people sound pretty desperate. I suggest unzipping these three files into your root and adding "c \essolo.com" to your autoexec.bat, or just type "essolo" in dos to load the driver.
