"XP Only Works for 509B. Set to PnP mode!!!, by booting into DOS, and run CFG utility on Disk1. Then XP will detect the card, however you have to install the driver manually by pointing install to Disk1. It is really the disabled PnP setting that couses trouble for most people!"

"The method described works like a champ with my 3c509 ISA in Legacy Mode. I used the file provided on that site, and followed step by step. My IRQ was 7 and I/O was 300h, for anyone looking for some starter values. It was rather a painless process. Thanks to everyone who helped make my lan a success!"

"My 3c509b-tp appears to deviate from the norm - or maybe it's my copy of W2K3 Web Server. Windows properly recognized the nic on it's own, but (of course) couldn't find the .inf and .sys files. I copied netel5x9.inf from the links given by Michal Stankoviansky to a floppy, then did as Jamie Roberts, and extracted elnk3.sys from x \i386\driver.cab on my W2K server CD to the

"Wow! Michal Stankoviansky's trick worked for my Windows Server 2003 install. I'm in a Test environ. and I need to test multiple OPSYS. Followed the instructions, had to extract the elnk3.sys file out of the driver.cab file from the I386 dir off my Win2K CD, then set the memory address and IRQ, but it works great! Thanks a million!"

"Hey guys! Michal Stankoviansky's link to the 3C509/Windows XP "trick" seems to have worked great! Just got my 3C509-TP working on Windows XP Pro. Config was exactly like the info on the last link he included www.lpt.com/windowsnetworking/regusers/wxpne2k.htm! Thanks Michal Stankoviansky"

"Everyone, who is looking for a driver for 3Com 3C509 / 3C509b ethernet card for Windows XP should stop looking for a driver (none of them works anyway) and should go to this address www.wown.com/j_helmig/wxpne2k.htm It's a step-by-step article how to make this card working under WinXP without downloading any new driver. It works!!! It saved my life!"

"they would not work because xp has a different driver installation than 9x/me. 3com have not made a driver for the ISA/PCI models because they believe that no many would use this for this operating system. they would make the drivers if there is enough support shown to 3com that it wanted for the xp o/s."
