on the link FAQ. Advice for the thickheaded newbie like I. There's

two links to Brilliant Succinct third party descriptions of DRIVERS.

None of these lead to still existing reality and to go past them

is to be back here... It doesn't look like Microsoft.Com but the

"I couldn't get the driver to work -- got an error message. This time, I'm trying the "install.exe" file for the Samsung SD-616; perhaps this will work.

BTW, I cannot really "recommend" the driver, because it didn't work for me; however, this may be the wrong driver for the application."

"Saved the driver to my hard drive. I then tried to rename it, but it wouldn't let me. Also would not let me delete it. Rebooted and finally got rid of it. Also got a popup for a "Free Laptop" right after I downloaded. That might be attached to the file. PopUp Stopper didn't catch it."

"Some drivers on this site used to work but recently the trusing nature of peeps has lead to the exploitation of its' lack of checks by certain malicious parties. For this reason It's probably best to go to manufacturer sites first (e.g. www.samsungelectronics.co.uk/) before trauling this and other-such trusting sites."

"I could not get the drivers to work with the dos no matter what I did. I spent almost 2 days working on this problem. Finally I solved the problem by installing a cd-rw from one of my other computers into the new one. I could then use the drivers on the Win98 startup disk to start the cd-rw. Then I was able to install WinXP over the Win 98 install. The drivers on WinXP or

"You might have better luck if you download the SD-616T BIOS from Dell.com (filename is B6W24301.exe) and the flash utility from Samsung (sfdnwin.exe). The Dell file will extract to a floppy, look for the .bin file on the floppy (F310DEL.bin) and use the Samsung flash utility to flash this new BIOS into your drive. "I've download the install.exe file to get the drivers. I'm working under WindowsXP and nothing has changed, i still can't use the DVD-ROM. Dou you know where can I find the drivers?"

"My samsung dvd rom sd 616 wasnt working for a few weeks and I couldnt find a driver and I finally found this cite. After clicking the install.exe a few times because it wouldnt work at 1st it finally worked and I downloaded the file to my computer. I insatlled this update and now my dvd works again. I run windows xp. Thanks for the help!"
