"I finally upgraded from WIN98 to WINXP. Much better software with XP. The only downside was I could no longer use my Perfection 636U.

Like others, I tried the various downloads from Epson with no success. A Goggle search turned up DriverGuide.com. Had some problems getting the 636U.zip to work correctly. But after I did, the software worked perfectly. Very nice! <

"Plug the scanner in, tell windows the directory you unzipped the file to and it adds it. Simple. Good Work David! and by the way, Everyone PLEASE Email Epson and tell them that because of their failure to support this product "you will no longer be buying Epson Products."

"I cannot get this to work. When I get to the point where it asks me to "select the device driver you want to instal with this hardware," I clcik have disk, and point it to the downloaded (and unzipped) folder. I the highlight the only file available ther "ESCANFB," and select open, and then ok from the resulting window. I thn get the error message "the specified locatio

"No problems with download or application. Simply dowmload 636u.zip file, Unzip it to a safe directory,point the windows XP hardware install program to the directory when it asks for driver location and thats it. The install program automatically finds the correct driver from the different drivers in the unzipped file.

Saved having to buy a new scanner."

"It took a bit to figure out how to make it work. I finally unplugged the scanner, rebooted my computer, then plugged the scanner back in to kick start the Hardware Install. I had to do everything manual, pick the drive/folder where the software was located, etc. But thank you for the driver! It means I don't have to get another scanner. And I WILL write epson and let

"As another comment mentioned - you need to install it using Device manager, but once you do everything seems hunky dory. Yay! Worked well with my GT-7000 SCSI. Oh - and Windows warns you that the driver's not signed, you've just to tell it that you don't care."

"Works great. Had to install through the Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance link, System link, Hardware Tab, and used the device manager to load the new driver. (Couldn't just add a scanner with the wizard.)"

"I downloaded this driver and didn't upload & operate w/my OS-XP. Don't try the other driver thats being offered w/as many negative comments. I did call Epson tech support 6/30/04 and they said to download: Epson ScanII 32 Utlity v2.35E & TWAIN Driver v3.42A(windows 2000) that it will operate great with Perfection 636U & that it was a great Scanner. "XP didn't like Setup, but after forcing an install pointed at the .inf file, done! It worked immediately with Irfanview, and so I left it at that. Great file, so hard to find! Why can't Epson post one that works?"

"I have similar problem as D. Smith from 4/22/03 post. Have an Epson 636U and downloaded files and unzipped. Only execuatable is the screen calibration. Now, the Epson website does not even have the GT-7000 Driver listed. Assistance is appreciated."

"Unable to get this to work. After I downloaded I extracted the file using Winzip. I was only able to find one exe file and that was for the calibration. Am I missing something?!!!"

"This driver was flawless on the first try. I unzipped all the files to a new directory, plugged in my 636U and XP found it immediately and started the HW Wizard. Pointed to the new directory containing your unzipped driver files and the install was smooth. Thanks so much."

"Same as others, this worked first time and I have a working GT7000u again. After speaking to Epson (grrr!) I genuinly believed I would have to go buy another scanner, so this is great news. Many thanks to David Rowell for uploading this driver, fantastic."

"Thanks for the dirver. As near as I can tell it works fine. I tested it with the Epsonscan software and with MS Picture It! and both worked as expected. If I run into any issues later on, I'll let you know. I agree with your comments about Epson's behavior and I told them so when I called for support. The woman who took my call did recommend that I search for a third party

"I DOWNLOADED, AND TRIED TO USE THE SOFTWARE BUT IT KEEPS SAYING NO PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FILE! IM LOST. THIS STUFF NEEDS TO BE MORE USER FREINDLY LIKE SLIDING IN A DISC AND MOVING ON. I SPENT ALL MORNING SCREWING WITH THIS FOR NOTHING!"

"This driver is exactly what I was looking for - any one know why the others claiming to work with XP just give you an install error? I think I have used this driver before and lost it in past reformats. It always worked."

"I am currently downloading this same driver now because I had to reformat my drive and forgot to backup the driver. I was very happy with this driver for my Epson 636U scanner. It worked as well as the OEM drivers for WinME and Win98. I'm very grateful to the contributor of this driver as he saved me from having to buy another scanner after my install of WinXP."

"The scanner should already be detected after you boot your machine but will be listed in Device Manager as an 'Other Device' as the correct driver is not loaded.

Simply extract the files to a directory on your hard drive and then in Device Manager (Control Panel|System|Hardware) right click the EPSON GT-9500 (or whatever) entry in the Other Devices section and click Up

"I cannot get this to work. When I get to the point where it asks me to "select the device driver you want to instal with this hardware," I clcik have disk, and point it to the downloaded (and unzipped) folder. I the highlight the only file available ther "ESCANFB," and select open, and then ok from the resulting window. I thn get the error message "the specified location d
