"Could not get windows to reconize the scanner. If you go to the control panel/scanners and cameras and choose the 5300 USB all you can choose is com1 or the printer port. Go figure."

"I still have not been able to install PaperPort from my Visioneer 5300 One Touch Flatbed scanner. I am using operating system Windows XP and know there could be a problem, but I cant get it to work at all."

"i loaded thwe driver and can use the scanner through microsoft photo but i can not load the paperport software yet. i have the maxkernell.dll issue now i am not really good with a computor but with help maybe i can get this working properly. any body know how who has the time for step by step instruction or very detailed what file to edit and where they are located?"

"I've downloaded the 5300u.exe file and followed, step by step, Kyu Lee's instructions and it installs the stupid paper port, but it doesn't connect to my scanner. It says "One Touch connect FAILED". If some one has any idea of how ca i make my scanner work please e mail me."

"Kyu Lee has the right way to set up the driver to work with XP. Visioneer explains this method when you download the file 5300u. Remember 2000 pro user, when setting up driver to restart computer and when prompted neew hardware or insert visioneer/paperport disc restart your computer again to boot scanner."

"This worked. I downloaded it. Then added the *.dll files from Khurram (MAXCODEC, MAXKERNL, MAXRAST, MAXUTIL, AND PPERR. Then I had to go to control pannel and click on add hardware to install the scanner. It would not install from control pannel, scanners and cameras, and add device. My scanner is working now, but the Paperport 6.1 is not working. Any ideas anyone.

"This does work but I used a combination of different advices 1)copy the original Paperport win98 cd to a temp folder on the harddrive. 2) delete scanners.ini from \Vision\Base\ folder, then run setup.exe. 3) disconnect power cord and unplug the USB connector. 4)you can install the software to C or D drive follow instructions...at appropriate point, click the '+' to th

"I have just installed again - then rebooted and got "This applications has failed to start because MAXKERNEL.dll" was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." ARGGHHH!!!!!!!!!"

"I have tried every possible iteration and am having major frustration and lack of success. The driver on the manufacturere site is much bigger than this one - and still does not work. Following the path above installs a whole bunch of heinous "paperport" type applications that I do not want. I just want a driver so that the one touch 53000 usb scanner appears as a connecte

"The visioneer homepage have a driver for Win2000 that will work for WinXP, which is the 5300u.exe. Download it and run it, but unplug your scanner and plug it up after running the driver. The original Paperport software won't work, but you can download paperport deluxe from Imesh, etc."

"I am a bit confused by these directions. Does the Win98 CD mean the original Windows 98 operating system CD? also, what is hdd? does that mean Hard Drive? Where would scanners.ini be found? Where would the setup.exe be found? I really need to get this scanner working again for my mom. Thanks, Scott"

"I copied the scansoft folder to hdd and deleted Scanners.ini, but could not find or run setup.exe. Should scanner be plugged in? The cd did not install. I give up."

"This did work great, however I found the original files in the d \vision\base folder and some more reqired .dll's in the d \VizPnP folder on the original disc. Plug the scanner in AFTER the two step process. Thanks, Lynx for the info... I couldn't get it otherwise."
