"Well, we aquired the scanner from a friend of ours along with a computer running Win ME. The scanner worked beutifully for a few months, then bang, stopped working. The SCSI card is still being detected by the computer but the Scanner is not. I got the .inf file but whenever I try and install the Scanmaker E3 after selecting "have disk" and "browse" and selecting Microte

"I got my Adaptec AVA 2906 SCSI controller and Microtek ScanMaker E3 (purcased for $$$ in 1995, but still a great scanner) to function in Windows XP Professional! I put the SCSI controller in an unused PCI slot (tried 2 before one worked, argh!) and attached the scanner cable in one operation (yes, with the computer off). The I booted up my xp machine (formerly Win 98, bu

"Oh, I just enjoyed reading everyones comments. They all are true. Some computers and their underlying systems will like you and the executive software you are running like XP. Others think you are from Kirkiut or Stockholm and will just be a sh*t. Out of stubborness I am trying to get my E3 to like XP and the new full scan light lid I bought for $12. Hey it's a challenge.

"Hey all, If you are trying to make ScanmakerE3 work with WindowsXP, I have one suggestion for you Pack your scanner, take it for a drive, on your way, stop by your favorite store like Staples/BestBuy/CompUSA, etc, buy a new scanner of your choice (not Microtek - for sure) and on your way back home, dump your ScanMakerE3 in your garbage box and don't you ever look back.

"Ok, I'm trying to connect the scanner via the parallel port... Are these instructions going to change? I didn't know if you all were using a card or not. I have tried everything submitted and get as far as having a Microtek Simple SCSI driver in my device manager with a 'Cannot start hardware' error. I've tried with the scsi terminator installed and without, and have t

"Got it to work in WINXP! I also have been a computer technician for several years. I had the scanner coming up in my Device Manager as a 'Scanner SCSI Scanner Device'. I couldn't get it to work either, BUT... You need this .INF file along with one other file at least that the .INF calls for. It is the 'msmusd.dll' and you can get it for free at priede.bf.lu.lv/ftp/P

"Dave, Seto is right. I have done all you have said. I have been a PC Tech for some time now, so I am well versed. The INF file is missing a required reference for Windows XP to pick up the driver data. The INF file was actually taken from the 260 program off of MicroTek's site. So, the original Submitter had no Earth-Shattering mods done to this file. Thanks for trying. Li

"You have to tell xp you are adding a new piece of hardware, a scanner. Then when it wants to look for a driver tell it you have the driver and point xp to that location. After you install the driver to use the scanner since you don't have the software that came with it, just use any photo program to pull in scans. Most have a option on the pull down menus that will let you

"Very simple to get the file in case you able to work with your browser. E.g. do a 'save_link_as' operation. If stored as .cgi rename it to .inf. If file is opened in new page, save page as. If then downloaded simply right klick with the mouse button and select 'install'. So no problem seen at all."

"Wow. I am so thankful for this site and its comments. I have not used my scanner for some time and now that I have XP, I go to use it and find that there are no drivers for it. In a panic (Xmas Season) I came to our ol' faithful site driverguide.com - searched for the driver and there it is. I installed the INF file, but it called for a dll file - thanks to the Shillington
