Visioneer 5300 USB XP Driver Reviews

oblem. Subsequently, XP finds an "Unknown USB Device" and my scanner is hosed.

If you or anyone has this problem in the future, I did the following BEFORE installing the service pack:

1. un-plugged my scanner

2. copy the c:\windows\inf\visPnP folder to a safe location

After I installed the service pack,

1. re-copied visPnP folder into the c:\windows\inf folder.

2. XP tries to re-install the driver and all you have to do is tell it where to look.

If you have already installed the Service Pack and found that this has happened, I don't know what to tell you, because XP automatically installs the "unknown USB device" and I was unable to get it to recognize the right driver, without re-installing XP. SORRY!

r. If that happens again, simply look for the 5300u file here on driverguide and you should be able to find it. Before explaining, i must remind you guys that i am using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 and all the updates installed. It may or may not make a big difference though, but still it's worth mentioning. The process of installation should be the same for Windows Xp Home as well, just try to download updates since it helps to get rid of all the bugs in your operating system. Now then, Uninstall Everything related to the scanner. Uninstall the paperport that you have right now. Try to find the paperport directory (should be C \Paperport) and Delete it manually just to make sure everything is GONE! Unplug your scanner, restart your computer. Once everything is loaded, run the 5300u.exe file. Click on finish. Before you plug your scanner back up, Double Click on My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View-> Show Hidden Files and Folders Close the My Computer Window. NOW plug your scanner. If it detects and does everything by itself, then great. If it asks for a directory for one or more missing files, then browse it to the following folder. C -> Windows -> INF -> vizPnP Once it's all done, go ahead and extract the 5300usbXP.zip file from driverguide to the C \Paperport folder. If it asks about replacing files, then go ahead and replace them. This part gets rid of the MAXKERNLL.DLL file problem. It needs 5 dll files to work properly and they are in the 5300usbXP.zip file. You can now go back (if you want to) and change the Show Hidden Files And Folders options back to Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders by going back to My Computer-> Tools -> Folder Options -> View The reason for doing the above was to make the vizPnP folder visible because it is hidden by default. Restart Your Computer, the little paperport icon should come up and start warming your scanner up. Hopefully, this process covered every scenario that can take place during the drivers installation. If you have problems downloading the correct file (5300u.exe) from Visioneer's website, then click on the advanced search option and type my name Khurram in the Submitter section. ownloaded the .dll files..unzip them and cut and paste the .dll files into your c program files> paprport folder. once youve done so. restart computer. once computer is up again, plug your scanner in, you might get a message saying new hardware found blah blah blah. if that screen comes up press cancel because you have already installed the drivers. the scanner icon should be in your system tray. if its not working then right click on the icon and select "connect". after this everything should be fine. if you run into any problems then that means you didnt get the right .dll files .or. you didnt install them properly. GOOD LUCK.."

t, click the '+' to the left of Twain~~, then 'other'. 5)When the installation is complete, run the 5300u.exe from above. 6)I then took the 5 *.dll files from 5300usbXP.zip provided by "Khurram" and copied them to the directory I installed the original paperport software (\Program Files\Visioneer\PaperPort) interestingly enough, all 5 *.dll already existed, but were dated earlier - so I replaced them all, but I don't know if this is necessary. 7) then I rebooted the computer. 8) then I connected the power cord and connected the USB cable. 9) My computer detecter the scanner and automatically started the FBDirect.exe so I was able to go through the setup and scan, copy, etc. I guess if it doesn't start auto, you can double click the FBDirect.exe in the \Program Files\Visioneer\PaperPort folder.
