Visioneer One Touch 7600 (parallel port) Driver Reviews

for the XP software ( actually more like the WIN 2000 software,)

since I noticed earlier a 30 MEG file rather than this 2Meg zip,

and I hope the PAPERPORT is in there. When you go to Visioneer.com, they refuse to give you the PAPERPORT software, and link you instead to PAPERPORT's site, where you must PAY to get the software... ALSO note that newer BIOS's such as the one in the motherboard I am using, link to XP with a DEFAULT of turning OFF

the IRQ ( normally IRQ 7 for the printer port ), and, also turn

OFF the " DETECT LEGACY PORT ", so that even if you have your

BIOS setup as EPP ( Extended Parallel Port (( two way communication with the printer/ Scanner )), XP software will override this setting, and you must go into XP itself, and under

SYSTEM, Hardware, PORTS, Parallel, turn ON the " LEGACY DETECT",

and ASSIGN IRQ ( Interrupt Request (( normally 7 )) ) BEFORE you

run the install.exe . ( SPP or Standard Parallel Port setting only talks ONE WAY " TO " the printer, and the printer or scanner cannot talk back to the computer. ECP, if available, adds in a DMA ( direct Memory ACCESS ) channel on top of the printer memory usage and/or IRQ channel, and I do NOT generally use this as it ties up a DMA location that " CAN " interfere with sound cards, -- DMA's are only absolutely required on RARE printers in any event, and I have not used one of these printers in years., HENCE, EPP, or Enhanced Printer Port, and no DMA assignment is preferred. Some BIOS will ask EPP, EPP 1.7, EPP 1.9 etc, and I usually just use EPP first, and see if it works. )

If you run this software installation setup as detailed in the

ZIP TXT file, " OTHER " software that " IMPORTS " a scanner, such

as Photoshop, WILL, indeed see the scaner and work, but you may get pop up boxes that state the BUTTONS and the SOFTWARE that runs the buttons on the scanner, ARE NOT SET UP, and without the missing programs, there is no way to do this ! You can "USE " the scanner, and it works fine, - just ignore the error pop ups.

As I stated, PAPERPORT may be available in other driverguide downloads, and I will try these later to get the 5 buttons on the front of the scanner working - ( STOP/CANCEL ) ( CUSTOM ) ( FAX ) ( COPY/PRINT ) and ( SCAN ). Someone had this scanner in a pile of stuff for $5, since they got MicroShaft's XP_loder, and the scanner " DIDNT WORK " in XP_loder, so I picked it up on a guess that it would work. Visioneer should be boycotted for deliberately refusing to write a tiny install file for this series of scanners ( forcing people to throw out perfectly good, working equipment, when they get XP ).
