"Touse with a pc upgraded from Windows 98 to XP, use the 'custom' install and take only the twain driver, THEN use the XP patch file '2xxxupdater' to get full functions of original vs 3.0, including 'power saver' to allow the scanner bulb to go off after periods of non-use... otherwise, if you use standard install of 3.55, power saver doesn't seem to be available."

"I would have to think that the people who did not get this driver to work for them didn't have a Astra 1220 usb model, or they didn't download the updater exe file to this driver. Although there are always exceptions when it comes to computers. I loaded this program onto my desktop closed my internet connection and then ran the file. Then I rebooted. For some reason th

"Driver worked great, but you have to make sure to install the "2xxxupdater.exe" patch, also available from this website for download at the following url: "http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=87754".

It seems like this driver (vs355u.exe) is located in two different places on this website, and at the other location BaconHedd ga

"This driver works great, you can also download this driver along with the 2xxx file for free from the UMAX german site. Go to a translation engine such as babelfish.altavista.com and then go to www.umax.de/support/treiber.htm and choose the scanner from the list there. When you get to the download page, the page is in both German and English (at the bottom of the page).&

"Brilliant! I thought I'd lost the 1220U interface for good and would have to make do with the Windows XP weak substitute. Even Umax told me I'd have to buy a new scanner. But this update worked precisely as if the scanner was new out of its box. As mentioned by other people above, it is necessary to download 2xxxupdater file as well. To install Turn on your scanner. "Install went smoothly, but after the required reboot the scanner still was not found by the OS. The UMAX software has a test which returned an error "could not access scanner"."

"Was difficult to install, kept hanging and not responding. Had to end unresponsive program several times and start install over again. Installed over existing files until all was completed. Then had to install the Update 2xxx software to get the scanner working. Has been stable and functional so far."

The drivers worked just GREAT! Just be sure to install

vs335u first and then 2xxxupdater. When finished with the

install reboot and away you go. No muss no fuss. Thanks

"I installed it three times, the third time it locked up my computer and I had to do a system restore from the time I installed it. It may have been in confict with the XP install already there. I don't know??"

"vs355.exe is the better driver. use it instead for windowsXP if you can find it. burn a copy to disc once you do (Umax charges for drivers now)..."

"I installed this driver and after not getting it to work, I finally read the comments and realized that it is a MUST that you also run 2xxxupdater.exe in order for it to work! Now it works perfectly!! Thanks!!!"

"Both the driver and the update were easy to download and install on my Win XP machine. Unfortunately, they did improve the poor images my scanner had started producing. I had thought the problem was a botched driver, now I'm thinking the hardware is just giving out. But, thanks for making these files available,"

"Posted 5-16-2003 This driver, along with 2xxxupdater file,Worked Great. All I had to do was open the files. Everything after that was just as if I was installing from the CD that came with the scanner. Although it worked with my system, it may not be right for others. I am using a Micron P4, with Windows XP Home. Thanks, and good luck. Jake"
