"I needed audio for a Compaq Presario 1250. The install of Win98 recognized it as Ess1869 COntrol Interface (wdm). It was necessary to manually force windows to use this driver, remove the Unknown Device in device manager, and restart. On reboot, the Ess Audio interface was detected, and the sound worked correctly."
