"Apparently not all gateway telepath USR Sportster 0478 ISA modems (1997) can be updated. I could not get this to work and had to reinstall the original modem driver, which is found on the Win98SE CD under 3com-usr in the winmodem folder.

When I first installed Win98SE and put in the modem, it recognized it as 3COM and set it up working at 28.8K. Com3 IRQ5. Modems,
