"As reported in my comment on sj398en.exe that driver worked perfectly. sj653mu.exe would not install (even though I followed Cheryl's instructions). In my case this did not seem to be necessary. Both copy and scan functions are working properly under XP without sj653mu.exe."

"I HOWL @ the moon w/ the Wolf This proceedure works!!!!

I downloaded and saved all 3 files -- sj398en.exe (main software package 25.9MB)---sj653mu.exe (smaller update patch 606KB)---update.exe (small update patch 28.7 KB) I setup the main program sj398en.exe ----rebooted---then moved the other 2 files (unexecuted)into C:/SCANJET. I then executed sj653mu.exe insi

"This driver doesn't work. Same problem fatal error. However, if you download driver sj398en and patch sj700en from HP site, the scanner will work. Dialup is 1hr 30 min"

"same as Debbie - I tried several times and this driver doesn't work with xp. HP agrees when I called tech support. They should take it of their site."

"I downloaded the same driver from here and from HP's site, both times it wont install...fatal error. I called HP and was told there is no driver for this scanner for XP and I should donate the scanner to a school and buy a new one!"
