"Tried on a HP cd-writer 9500 bacause HP doesn't download drivers anymore and this was the closest. It didn't work, but I didn't know if it would or not. Maybe someone could get a driver for a 9500."

"External HP CD-Writer 9600 did work as CD-Rom drive with generic Windows Me drivers. Driver downloaded here did not work for burning CD's. Found my original driver CD and it worked. Note, drivers no longer available for download from HP, BUT are AVAILABLE on CD for about $10. Try that."

"HP CD-writer 9600 (external) worked as a CD-ROM drive with generic Windows ME drivers. Driver downloaded here did not work to make the drive burn CDs. The correct driver for the 9600 is no longer available for download on HP's site. HOWEVER, it is available on a CD! I recommend that route which only costs about $10 including shipping. I was on the verge of ordering on

"Installed on a used machine bought on eBay (came without hard drive). Without this driver my internal SCSI 9600 barely worked - it took long time to access the CD-ROM drive/files (if it would at all); now it catches hold in a jiffy. Did not try writing CD - doubt it alone would help - there should be another program for it with an interface. Thanks to the person who submit
