ALI M5273 Driver Reviews

summary: I have abandoned this quest, for now.

The driver(s) installed and the 4 red exclamations marks

in Device Manager disappeared.

Unfortunately:

1] the 4 port Ali USB 2 card did not recognise any

of my flash/pen/thumb drives

2] A yellow exclamation mark appeared in Device Manager

3] My Sound stopped working

4] I have un-installed the Ali PCI card

5] later on I may try again as USB 1 is really too slow.

ALi PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller Driver V1.52

for Win XP/SP3

01] downloaded the setup_130672.exe

via the DG Download Installer as this was free

02] I created a restore point via : start>pgms>accessories

03] Running setup_130672.exe required me to connect to the web.

Generally, I prefer to physically disconnect from the web

when installing SW; then I run AV scans.

After all , who knows what u've downloaded.

04] setup_130672.exe contained ads and offers;

04a] I was seduced by one of them: " pricegong ".

04b] u can start>programs>pricegong>uninstall

05] I had to regularly click ALLOW on my Comodo FireWall

[ true throughout the process ]

06] after this my HDD contained AliEHCI_152.zip

07] I extracted AliEHCI_152.zip to get

EHCI_152.exe and a README.txt

08] The README was not very large and was extremely useful.

It needed careful reading, NOT a quick glance.

The REABME text needed correct interpretation

and misled me a bit.

09] I opened/launched AliEHCI_152.zip and a few minutes later

it was done, with no significant decision-guesses

required from me.

10] At this stage :-

10a] device manager still showed the "red devils"

10b] Control Panel > "add/remove new pgms" showed:

" Ali USB2.0 Driver "

11] I uninstalled each of the 4 "red devils"

> Right-Click "red devil" > UnInstall

12] I turned off the computer.

13] After a few minutes I turned the computer back on

and waited for XP "to settle down". [ a few minutes]

14] Win notified me that it " found new HW" of various

USB types. [ a few minutes]

15] Win notified me that it was installing SW

[ a few minutes]

16] A few minutes later [ again letting XP stabilse/settle down ]

I went to device manager and there were no "red devils"
