"This firmware update will not, in fact, allow you to burn any speed media as it claims. The 1300A cannot and will never burn 16x DVD-R or +R. Sometimes it'll handle 8x but 16x just reports illegal media under Nero. Other programs use different words to tell you the same thing.

I cant cheaply get slow disks anymore so looks like a new drive for me. When I can afford one.
