"Get error, "The system file is not capable of running MS-DOS..." Don't know what's up with that. Got the same error trying CD from HP that had worked on a newer emachine that's also running XP."

"Works fine, but as with all other hp drivers, there's no way to install only printer/scanner functions w/out others bells and whistles. Futhermore, i haven't found a way to remove tray icon. It's annoying."

"The drivers went in easily, but when I used the document manager I kept gettin g an error message and the microsoft error message came on.The application you have started will have to close.. I never got it to work even with the install disk from hp. The printer was targeted for win2000NT and does get figgidy when it isnt nt."

"Driver installed well, though I had to copy it to a c or d drive (network drive didn't work).

But I had a few unexpected spontaneous resets, which I blame the driver for....

The machine works fine with the driver, that's not the problem."

"Traci is a rock star. I had to try and get the printer to work while computer-literate hubby was out of town. It worked perfectly, even for a moron like me. I'm sending HP a letter to give them a piece of my mind...They wouldn't even comp the driver even though the computer I'm trying to print from is a brand new HP! Shame on them!"

"I just got an email from someone looking for answer to the "'found new hardware' messages when XP starts problem". I finally found my answer and I hope that this helps some other folks. I think I made a note for all the necessary clicks, but this should at least get you to the answer. When the found new hardware message comes up, select "install from a specific location

"Traci, May God richly bless you, I had two printers on my desk for nearly a year, the LJ3100 for faxes and a LJ 1100 for printing. It is outrageous that the pathetic HP have been allowed to charge for an update to one of their drivers. I refused to pay in principle. Once again, many, many thanks."

"INSTALL PROBLEM??? Move the files in the "disk1" directory back one level into the "english" directory because the parameter is incorrect. Will then install fine."

"How are these files intalled? Do I unzip them and then install the setup.exe file? Do I need to install in SAFE Mode? Do I need to uninstall the previous version of hp's 3100 cd software?"

"I just loaded it as per BobJ's instructions. What great sound, my printer humming again! Thank you so very much! What a life saver! I was so bummed out when I upgraded to XP and my printer no longer functioned. Note I ran \temp4zip\nt\setup32.exe, worked perfect."

"God bless Traci Lee. I thought I'd never get this formerly beloved printer to print. Judging from message boards, no one else can either, even after paying hp for the xp disk. This worked like a perfect dream. Be sure to work your way down to the very last folder before clicking setup.exe."
