"I wanted to use the DVD300e as a better optical drive than the one I had for an old laptop. I downloaded HP_DVD_300e_Drivers.rar and then decompressed it (using 7zip) to a folder on my C: drive.

I then plugged the DVD300e into a USB port (1.1 on this old machine) and Windows98 popped up a dialogue as notification that new hardware had been detected. Win98 gave me the
