"My old Ess1869 sound card driver was missing on my laptop. It was available here on Driver Guide. I installed it and didn't take. Once I re-installed XP, the sound was back; GO figure."

"This driver added a device in the device manager and I cannot get it to go away! Also, BOTH of my sound cards quit working. They are recognised in the device manager, but the sounds and multimedia control panel won't let them work!"
