"i downloaded the sidewinder software provided by microsoft download site, when installing the software it had many issues and ultimately did not run, direct-x issues, or xp inconpatibility, this driver works excellent i am currently running win xp media center 2005 sp2, besides the warning during setup install was successfull"

"Drivers were designed for Win9x, but will work in XP. You will need to open the hardware properties and roll back the driver to the one this app installs. Reboot with the controller connected and windows should detect your Sidewinder. Mad props to Micro$oft for selling hardware, then not supporting it."

"Got it to work by running as win98/me in compatibility mode under properties.

and ignor if it says that s/w is supported only for Win 98 and doesn't support for extra features"

"I downloaded it specially for Win XP. Installing the Sidewinder driver from the "Add Remove Applet" worked exactly the same. The downloaded application had no advantage what so ever. It will not allow the setting up or selecting of any game schemes. A waste of three hours downloading it."

"Is the same driver that come with this whell; it is made for win98 but "can work on 2000 XP" with no support from microsoft... I see that microsoft is still selling this whell with the same software included, even after 2 years that XP is came out... another situatuation where hardware is made with no further support.. mah!"

"This worked for me! I had lost separate axis functionality on my pedals since going to XPpro from 98SE. This exe gives a "you are running Windows 2000" dialog that was not coming up on the CD version of the 4.0 software that I have. Thanks!"

"I installed the driver downloaded from this page but it says its for win98. I did it any ways and it appeared to work fine but when pulling the controller properties it does not launch the profile editor but the regular windows buttom testes and calibrator. In short it does not work."

"I am using Windows XP SP3. The file downloaded and extracted correctly. The setup programme launched but then stalled when I clicked on the 'Software Installation' stage. I tried it several times, including running in compatibility mode. Very poor. It could be because I'm on SP3."
