The next generation of High Speed Media ( 4x DVD-R , 2x DVD-RW , released by DVD Forum at September 17,2002 ) can possibly damage the 2108VR. The new firmware ( v1.32 ) can avoid the potential issue, but the firmware would force a reduction in speed to only 1x.
