Before you start

This Upgrade can be applied to the FCS ("First Customer Ship") version of XMetaL 3.0, or any subsequent published patch or Service Pack to XMetaL 3.0. It does not apply to XMetaL 1.x, 2.x, pre-release ("Beta") versions or to Evaluation versions. Before applying the Upgrade, check the XMetaL version number by choosing "About..." from the Help menu:

- If you currently have version 3.0.3.053 or 2.9.3.053 of XMetaL 3.0,you can apply the Upgrade.

- If you currently have version 3.0.4.062 or 2.9.4.062 of XMetaL 3.0,you can apply the Upgrade.

- If you currently have version 3.0.5.063 or 2.9.5.063 of XMetaL 3.0,you can apply the Upgrade.

- If you currently have version 3.0.5.064 or 2.9.5.064 o

f XMetaL 3.0,you can apply the Upgrade.

- If you currently have version 3.0.5.065 or 2.9.5.065 of XMetaL 3.0,you can apply the Upgrade.

- If you currently have version 3.1.3.058 or 3.2.3.058 of XMetaL 3.1,you do not need to apply the Upgrade, because this versionalready contains the relevant fixes.

Since the installer works by updating existing XMetaL 3.0 files, you must not de-install the software before applying the Upgrade. It is not necessary to de-install at any point in the updating process.

Note: the Upgrade will fail if you have deleted any of the patch files (xmetal3.exe xmetal3a.exe XMmkrules.exe XMmkrulesA.exe mkrls.exe mkrlsA.exe), or if you are applying the Upgrade on top of a pre-release version. If you have deleted any of these files, you can restore them by re-installing XMetaL 3.x from the CD.

If you have received and installed a pre-release version you can back out of the pre-release version by restoring the original from the Backup folder in your XMetaL installed folder. To restore a file, find and copy the backed up file from the Backup Folder into the parent folder.

How to install the Upgrade

1. After you have completed downloading the Upgrade, the file "xm30to31up.exe" should be present on your PC. This file should have a size of 16,516,984 bytes. If the file has a different size,or if its digital signature is not found or is incorrect,the download did not complete successfully: you must downloadthe file again. (To check the Digital Signature, right click on thedownloaded file, select Properties, select Digital Signatures,highlight name, click details.)

2. If you are running Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP,you must install this Upgrade as "administrator".

3. Using Windows Explorer, double-click on "xm30to31up.exe" to install the Upgrade files. The Upgrade installer willprompt you for the location of your current version of XMetaL 3.If you do not choose the correct folder, the Upgrade will fail.

4. After the installation has completed, reboot your PCto ensure that all DLLs have been updated properly.

5. Clean up by deleting the file "xm30to31up.exe".
