This is made for win2K but should also help with XP. Am trying it now. It is just a patch but should solve problems. Also helps if you have a VIA chipset motherboard, (look for VIA on your computer's motherboard.) VIA has extra problems with the Vortex.

How to Update Vortex 8830 Device Drivers
